L\u012bga Dekmeijere<\/a> was born in Riga, Latvia on May 21st<\/sup>, 1983. From the age of six, she started to play tennis. Her father, former coach for the Soviet bobsled program, introduced her to the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the age of 10, L\u012bga moved to Germany with her family. There, she played regional tournaments, showing results very quickly. Within a few years, she began to travel on the Junior circuit, entering international tournaments in Europe and the United States. Her success at the Junior level, include victories over Maria Sharapova in singles at the Eddie Herr International Junior Championship<\/a> in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From age 14, Liga was a member of the Latvian Fed Cup team. She rose to the number 1 ranking for her country soon after and remained the number 1 female singles player for over five years. She maintained the number 1 doubles player for Latvia for over ten years. In 2003, she won the Latvian Championship in singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She won her first of 21 professional doubles title at age 16 in Brussels. Her WTA doubles title at the Cachant\u00fan Cup in Vi\u00f1a del Mar, Chile, was won with Alicja Rosolska in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liga has completed in all major tennis events, reaching the finals at 6 WTA Tour events, including the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, SC and the Bell Challenge in Quebec City, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her Grand Slam doubles partners include former top singles players, Jelena Jankovic, Petra Kvitov\u00e1, Angelique Kerber, Agnes Szavay, Patty Schnyder, Anna-Lena Groenefeld, Anastasija Sevastova, Varvara Lepchenko and Kateryna Bondarenko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2009, Liga was named World Team Tennis Rookie of the year. She has played for the St. Louis Aces, Boston Lobsters, Springfield Lasers, and the Philadelphia Freedoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liga currently lives in the Dallas area with her daughter. She founded in Overall Tennis Development<\/a> in 2014, so that she could share with players of all ages what she has learned on the professional tennis tour.
